When Should You Bring Your Child In?
Fevers, coughs, rashes, tummy troubles and the general unease that comes with a child who is not quite themselves are all reasons to book a visit. Our doctors examine children thoroughly and explain what they find in terms that make sense to a worried parent, rather than in language that leaves you googling afterwards. If you are ever unsure whether a symptom is worth a visit, it usually is.
Who Is This Service For?
Child health consultations suit any family with a young patient, whether this is a first visit for a newborn concern or an older child due for a routine check-up. Our doctors are used to working with children of every age and temperament, including those who are nervous about the visit.
What Happens If Specialist Care Is Needed?
Where a condition falls outside general practice, your child may be referred to Dr Mark Moodley, our on-site paediatrician, or to another specialist depending on the concern. Coordinating this referral directly means less back and forth for you and a faster route to the right care, since the referring doctor and the paediatrician are working from the same building and can discuss your child's case directly.
How Can You Help Your Child Feel At Ease?
Bring along a comfort item if your child has one, and let them know in simple terms what to expect. Our team is used to working with anxious children and takes the time needed to make an examination feel less daunting, even if that means slowing the consultation down.
What To Bring To The Appointment
A note of your child's symptoms, including when they started and anything that has helped or made them worse, gives your doctor a clearer picture from the outset. Bring along your child's health record book if you have one, especially for a first visit, as it helps track growth and vaccination history over time.
What About Ongoing Childhood Conditions?
For children managing an ongoing condition, whether that is asthma, allergies or another chronic concern, our doctors provide regular review alongside any specialist input from Dr Moodley, so your child's care stays joined up rather than split between appointments that never quite talk to each other.
Medical Aid And Billing
Child health consultations are generally billed to medical aid in the same way as an adult consultation, though paediatric referral consultations may be billed separately by the specialist. Check with our reception team if you would like this confirmed beforehand.
