A doctor at Sunningdale Medical Centre listening to a patient during consultation

About Sunningdale Medical Centre

Sunningdale Medical Centre was built around a simple idea: that people deserve a doctor who listens before they diagnose. As a Medical Centre Durban families have relied on for general practice, we look after acute concerns, chronic conditions and preventative health across every stage of life. Our rooms are shared with physiotherapy, pharmacy and aesthetic medicine partners, which means your care rarely has to leave the building.

What has not changed since we opened our doors is our focus on the person in front of us, not the clock on the wall. That focus shapes everything from how long a consultation runs to how closely we follow up afterwards. We describe ourselves as a family practice deliberately. Many of our patients bring their children, then their children's children, back to the same rooms over the years, and we get to know the story behind a health concern rather than treating it as an isolated event.

Dr Megan Elfick, general practitioner at Sunningdale Medical Centre

Dr Megan Elfick

General Practitioner

Qualifications: MBBS (Wits), DCH(SA) with Merit, FCPaed(SA) Part I, Diploma of Nutrition, ACLS EP, ATLS, PALS, ELNEC.

Dr Megan Elfick brings a strong paediatric background to the general practice team at Sunningdale Medical Centre. A Wits-trained doctor, she has completed her Diploma in Child Health with Merit, Part 1 of the Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians and a Diploma in Nutrition, and is currently working towards her Diploma of Mental Health. Her interests extend beyond paediatrics to women’s health, mental health, neurodiversity and lifestyle medicine, giving her a broader view of the many things that can influence how a person feels and functions.

Years spent caring for children in hospital, community and outreach settings have shaped the way Dr Elfick approaches medicine. She values clear, empathetic communication and takes the time to understand the person behind the symptoms. Whether she is speaking to a worried parent, treating an everyday illness or helping someone make sense of a longer-term health concern, her approach is thoughtful, practical and centred on making patients feel heard.

Dr Nomeshan Naidoo, general practitioner at Sunningdale Medical Centre

Dr Nomeshan Naidoo

General Practitioner

Qualifications: MBBS (UOM), ACLS, PALS.
Practice number: MP0990795

Dr Nomeshan Naidoo completes the general practice team at Sunningdale Medical Centre. He believes that being a good doctor is about more than medicine. It is about listening, understanding and helping people feel at ease, especially on a difficult day. He treats each consultation as a window into a patient's wider concerns rather than a single symptom to be ticked off, and he is not above a little humour when it helps someone relax.

For Dr Naidoo, being professional when it matters and human always is not a slogan. It shapes how a consultation is run from the first question to the last, and it is why many patients describe their visits as feeling less clinical than they expected.

Our Wider Team

Sunningdale Medical Centre also hosts a number of independent practitioners who extend the care available on site, so a referral rarely means leaving the building. Each operates under their own practice, working alongside our general practitioners where a shared patient needs coordinated care. Together, this wider team allows us to support a much broader range of concerns than general practice alone could manage.

What Matters To Us

We try to assist each patient and their family across a broad spectrum of conditions, from mental health to acute, chronic and preventative care. Above all, we are here for human connection and to help our patients through difficult days, whatever form that difficulty takes. If you are new to the area or simply looking for a practice that will get to know you properly, we would like the chance to be that practice. Book a consultation whenever you are ready, and let the rest of the conversation take its natural course from there.

Whether you need a general consultation or a referral to one of our on-site partners, our team works together to keep your care connected. It is one of the reasons patients describe Sunningdale Medical Centre as a Medical Centre Durban feels less impersonal for, and why so many stay with us as their family circumstances change over the years. New patients are always welcome, and joining the practice is as simple as booking your first consultation. From there, your file grows with you, so every future visit builds on what we already know.
